Maintenance, Documentation and Operator Training at the DESY
Accelerators

The DESY accelerator complex consists of a couple of different
pre-accelerators of linac- or synchrotron-type which not only feed the
HERA (high energy electron/positron versus proton) collider but also
the DORIS positron storage ring used for synchrotron light studies. A
review of the maintenance strategies and the training efforts for the
operator crew will be presented. A novel Electronic Document
Management System (EDMS) to store descriptions of operating procedures
as well as information about technical systems is currently being
introduced at DESY. The initial experience gained  using the EDMS will
be reported.
