Abstract:

 The Advance Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory is a Third
 Generation Light Source built in the 1990s. Like the machine itself,
 the Main Control Room (MCR) employs design concepts based on today's
 requirements.

 We will discuss the ideas used in the design of the MCR and how we
 feel about the layout, after living with it for the past three
 years. We will also note how safety concerns have been integrated into
 the control room layout.
