Rene van den Elzen - Bio Rene joined TRIUMF in 1979 when the group consisted of about 5 people. He has a degree in Physics as well as considerable training and experience in electronics. In 1981 Rene went to TCC in Berkeley to work on the CP42 Cyclotron which was then being tested before shipping to TRIUMF. When the CP42 finally arrived on-site, installation and commissioning was undertaken by the TRIUMF CP42 Group (now the Applied Technology Group). As the group's experience and size grew another isotope production cyclotron, called the TR30, was installed and added to the ATG's list of responsibilities. Rene's responsibilities increased and he was promoted to the position of Isotope Production Supervisor of the Applied Technology Group. He is responsible for providing cyclotron operations support for the commercial cyclotrons and also for some commercial isotope production on the main 500 MeV cyclotron. Rene directly supervises 4 technologists and continues to do hands on work as well as carrying out various administrative duties.
