Peter Gear WAO 98 Abstract

       The Main Control Room acts as the focal point for all
       activities associated with the ISIS Facility.  The
       operational shift teams have, as a result, additional
       responsibilities, above those associated with operating and
       the control of the accelerators.  These include providing
       support and assistance to the large number of users
       (experimenters), acting as a co-ordinators for maintenance
       tasks and ensuring that all work is undertaken according to
       laid down safety rules and procedures.  The Duty Officer
       (shift leader) has executive responsibility for safety
       throughout the Facility and will issue Permits to Work
       including - in his role as a Radiation Protection
       Supervisor - Radiation Permits to Work.  These additional
       responsibilities are the subject of this talk.
