  Maintainance Issues at the Ion Beam Lab at IBM ARC

   The NEC 3UH Pelletron at IBM ARC is operated 5 days/week, typically
   8hrs/day.  Approximately 2000 samples/year are analyzed on the
   machine, and with a predominantly one man operation, there is not
   much time for maintenance. My philosophy is run it until it breaks,
   with only minimal preventative maintenance.  Part of the success of
   this technique is thoughtful machine design and operation.  I will
   describe the operation and maintenance activities at the IBM ARC
   Ion Beam Lab.
