MS Caltech 1972, Aeronautical Engineering Joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Livermore, CA, USA in 1992. Worked in private sector in Southern California 1972-1992, mostly in submarine detection research. Continued submarine work at LLNL through 1996. Member, National Ignition Facility (NIF) Start-up and Operations Planning Group, for 1 year. NIF is under construction, and when fully activated in 2004, will be the world's most powerful pulsed high-energy laser, and will be used primarily for fusion experiments to support weapons research and other programs. I am responsible for putting together NIF Operations procedures documentation, working with NIF Project and Operations staff. My colleagues and I put together the NIF Operations training conceptual plan, and I will be responsible for overseeing its implementation. I have met several members of the accelerator operations community in the process of performing this work. Colleagues Glenn Hermes and Greg Tietbohl are leaders in Nova Operations (existing large pulsed laser facility at LLNL), and oversee much of the ongoing NIF Operations planning. Colleague Bruno Van Wonterghem is Chief Scientist for NIF Start-up.
