Gordon A Roy - Bio. Gordon Roy has been at TRIUMF since "before it was a hole in the ground" (June 70). Initially he was "loaned out" and was involved with the construction phase of the main facility, doing layout and inspection of the entire building. He then worked on the original ion source for the Centre Region Model (the "CRM", a working 3-MeV cyclotron which was the full-scale test for the first 48" of the TRIUMF cyclotron), developing with the Controls Group the operational controls and consoles. When the main building was complete Gordon began the task of building the first ion source and the low-energy beam-transport system known as the Ion Source and Injection System ("ISIS)". In those days employees did everything from erecting steel to designing circuit boards. When the source was complete, Gordon designed the interlock system, and again with the Controls Group developed the operational programs and the Operators consoles. Since then he has continued to modify the Main Control Room as systems change and items are added and/or upgraded. Today the main console bears little resemblance to what was there initially. Now the ISAC is to be added. Along with this work, Gordon spent over 27 years as a radio Broadcast Engineer, producing well over one thousand hockey, football, basketball and baseball broadcasts. This includes nation-wide broadcasts of the "Grey Cup" Game [ed. Canadian Superbowl] and the Stanley Cup Finals (NHL Hockey). He has also been involved with radio production studios, "talk show" and recording studio design, construction and problem solving (both electrical and acoustical). Gordon and his partners previously ran a company which designed, installed and operated sound systems, staging and lighting for numerous stage presentations from High School Graduations to the Beach Boys to John Lee Hooker to the French National Ballet. Decades of work on the stage have given him a good perspective on lighting, visual presentation and acoustics. He has been a "designer" since high school when he won a home-design competition.
