Dear Colleague, This is a call for people willing to contribute to a poster session describing aspects of control rooms at the Workshop on Accelerator Operations in May. Speakers from four labs (TRIUMF, Argonne, Rutherford, and Jefferson) have agreed to give talks on their control rooms. You have an opportunity to contribute to this session through a poster about your control room. You may want to provide a general description of your control room or you may want to emphasize a particular aspect about it. For example, you may have recently remodeled your control room and want to provide others with information on the new design or on the actual redesign process. Here are some aspects which you might want to consider for your poster: Describe the layout of your control room (including the size). What is the design philosophy used for your control room? * How do you control the lighting in your control room? * Do you have any special acoustic features? * What is your philosophy towards storage of documentation in your control room? * What is the total number of display screens in you control room? * How do you control the proliferation of keyboards and computer mice? * How many and what kinds of printers or plotters do you have in your control room? * What kind of sound equipment do you have your control room for the operators' comfort? * Do you allow outside television reception in your control room? * Do you have any sort of special temperature controls in the control room? What other special features does your control room have? How many people work in the control room? What are their operational stations? How many "visitors"? What is the access to the control room? How are communications handled between the control room and other locations? What are the interactions with experimenters? How are interactions with maintenance personnel handled? What other activities are handled from the control room? (e.g., health physics support, *security, *first-aid, *night-switchboard.) What is the interface to fire alarm panels, fire alarms, other emergency situations? General workshop information is available on the workshop web site at http://www.triumf.ca/wao98/ Check for poster information by following the FORMAT button. If you are interested in contributing to this session, please contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.
